Domino - A Solo Game
Dominoes are small rectangle-shaped tiles with dots or "pips" painted on them to represent numbers. They are usually made from ivory, plastic or wood. Believed to be an invention of the Chinese, each rectangle is divided in two by a straight line and is either blank or has one or more dots painted on each end of the same side. The most popular domino set is called a double-six because each end of the tile has a maximum of six dots on it. Some sets do have more, with the largest numbers being 18 dots on each end.
Although traditionally played with two or more people, there are some solo domino games. Concentration is one such game. Played with the traditional double-six set of dominoes, Concentration is played by making matches. Two tiles are turned over and the dots on each side are counted together. The object is to find a sum of 12. Thus, a tile with 3-2 pips and another one that has 3-4 counts as a match as it adds up to 12. Now 2 more tiles are turned over. If these 2 don't equal 12, then both tiles must be turned back over and the next turn commences.
There's also a Domino Solitaire game. In this game, 3 dominoes are chosen from the "boneyard"; a term used to describe the draw pile of "bones" or tiles, and placed face-up in front of you. Then you choose one of these three and place it in the middle of the playing area. You then replace the used bone with another one from the boneyard and place it face-up with the other two. Then you choose another of the three tiles and play it as you would in regular play. The game continues in like fashion and if you are able to play all the bones without missing a turn, you win. At any time, however, if you are unable to play a bone from one of the three that are face-up, the game is over and you lose.
