Getting Ready to Enjoy Dominoes

The game of Dominoes has been widely played since it was introduced centuries ago. The growth of the Internet has only fueled the popularity of the game. While there are many variations of the game, the basics of playing Dominoes are quickly and easily learned.

Domino sets are made up of tiles or bones. The rectangular bones are divided by lines into two equal parts. The two sections of the tile can be thought of as two rolls of a die. The ends of the bone each have a number denoted by dots known as pips. When the ends of tiles have the same number of pips, they are considered to be a suit. Tiles having the same number on each end are known as doubles. Dominoes are ranked in value according to the number of pips on the tile. The "heaviest" (most valuable) domino is the double-six tile. The "lightest" Is the double-blank.

Double-six is the favored domino set. It contains twenty-eight tiles. Each tile has a non-repeating number combination. In a double-six set the numbers begin with zero (referred to as a blank) and run to six. There are seven suits each containing seven tiles in a Double-six set of dominoes. All the bones except the doubles tiles will belong to two different suits.

Myriad games can be played with a Double-six set of dominoes. Among the favorites are All Fives, Chinese Dominoes and Sebastopol . Once the basics of domino play have been learned with a Double-six set, many players like to progress to the more complicated games which are played with larger domino sets such as Double-nine and Double-twelve.
