Concentration

Concentration is a domino game for two or more people, and normally uses a double-six set of dominoes. Larger sets such as double-nine or double-twelve can be used in games with a large number of people. If you are familiar with the card game of the same name, you will probably find concentration dominoes to be a simple, fast, and familiar memory game.

The first step in concentration dominoes is to mix-up the tiles and then arrange them, face-down, into a 4 x 7 grid. In this version of dominoes the players do not have hands. All play involves the tiles in the grid.

Determining who plays first can be accomplished through drawing tiles (before they are laid out in the grid shape), a series of coin tosses, paper-rock-scissors, are any other means. The format for play is simple. Every player takes turns turning over two dominoes. If the pips on the two dominoes equal twelve, the tiles are removed and kept by the player. If the two tiles do not add up to twelve, however, they are turned back over. The objective is to remember which number combinations are where and to secure the most points.

Each tile in Concentration dominoes counts as one point. Pips are irrelevant in score calculation. Generally fifty points is the number needed to win. However, this could be made lower or higher depending on the mood.

If you are playing concentration dominoes with a larger group and you are using a double-nine or double-twelve set, it is a good idea to make 18 or 24 the number needed to remove the two dominoes from the grid and into a player's point pile..
